Mitt Romney on CNN

Can I just say ugh?

Is he capable of saying something honest? Of not obfuscating? He's just so sleazy. I don't understand how anyone can believe a word that comes out of his mouth. If people fall for his crap, it'll be just as bad as when voters fell for President Bush's "compassionate conservative" nonsense or "we gotta fight them there so we don't have to fight them here" bs.

Agreed. But that's the nature of Mormonism.

Like Mormonism, the blog isn't what it seems.
(Funny photos too.)

If you are going to accuse somebody of lying, it is usually best to
have proof or an example of how the person did so. Simply not
agreeing with a person's point of view is not the same thing. Also,
in regards to the above posted comment, I find it fascinating that people
focus so much on Mitt Romney's religion, while none of the other
candidates seem to be asked how their religion would affect their
potential presidency. They aren't asked, how will being Episcopalian
affect what you vote for (if there is an Episcopalian candidate, for
example). Nor are they asked (for Barack Obama), how will being
African-American affect what you vote for, or (for Hillary Clinton),
how will being a woman affect what you vote for. It seems to me that
the obfuscation you refer to is on your part.

In terms of religion, through the course of my life I've met two Mormons who I became friends with. Both of them I think are really great people - the kinds of people I'd vote for, even. I am not and have never been the kind of person who has ragged on Mitt Romney's religion. The only thing I ask out of religious candidates - and this doesn't matter what faith they prescribe to - is to seperate their religious beliefs from their proposed governmental policies. I don't even care if they personally are against certain policies, so long as they don't try to legislate their policy preferences, especially when those policies infringe on the rights of people.

That said, the reason I didn't qualify Mitt's lies are because they're fairly well documented. He was a stronger proponent of gay rights than Ted Kennedy - until he ran for President. He wasn't going to mess with choice and matters such as that... until he did. He will say anything to get elected. I don't vote for those kinds of people, no matter what party they run for (for an example of that kind of guy on the left, look to Joe Biden and his current policies on Iraq - like I said, I don't do that kind of dishonest grandstanding with ANY political party, least of all Mitt Romney).
