Let’s be absolutely clear: whatever “tactical successes” we have achieved have not translated into the strategic success we need to turn the tide. The escalation has failed to resolve the fundamental conflict between Sunni and Shia that continues to drive the Iraqi civil war, and there’s no reason to believe that more of the same is going to make a difference.For sure. It's time to start to lick our wounds, start to withdraw and come home. There's nothing we can do in Iraq, except either stall the inevitable or make things worse. It seems like the latter is more likely.
