It was going to happen, this was no surprise. The Democrats had a chance to block a person who will be very damaging to this country, but they failed to do so. The Democratic party needs to be saved from its current leadership: the U.S. Senate has consistently failed to hold the line and protect the interests of common citizens. While the privileged run-a-muck, hard working Americans are struggling more every day.
Now, with Alito on the bench, Executive Powers will be expanded. Worker's rights could be stripped. Roe v. Wade will become eroded, so many restrictions will be placed (many of them already have been) that the precident may as well be overturned.
However, it isn't time to be down. It's time to move on and continue to fight the good fight. Democrats must be energized and look to 2006. President Bush and a corrupt Republican leadership have gone this far, but they will go no further. Democrats must win the U.S. Senate. Democrats must gain a significant amount of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. If we don't gain a stronger voice, progressives will have no voice in this country and the Democratic Party will continue to dissapoint.

In his first case as a justice, Alito split with the conservatives over a capital punishment case.
On one hand, if he turns out to not be the drone the left had predicted, you should be happy to get all the stuff you want, but the crediblity of the 40+ senators who voted against him immediatly goes up in smoke. This is gonna be interesting.
