Mitt's Mad Mayhem

The guy can't even bother to participate in the inaugural proceedings.

As part of the planning, the departing governor, Mitt Romney, will leave the State House in the centuries-old "lone walk" the night before the inauguration, which officials say is the first time in history, to avoid an awkward public departure in front of thousands of Patrick supporters.
Damn that Mitt, he's special. He can't fess up to the fact that a rising political force came up to meet him... and was just waiting, in glee, to see his long, lone-ly walk. The good news is, for the first time in recent memory, Mitt'll be in Massachusetts sans major disaster of epic proportions.

I think we all need to see Willard off on the night before the inaugration. Does anyone want to be with me to greet Willard as he does his photo op for the cameras on Wed. Night?

Ryan - these new arrangements are at DEVAL PATRICK'S behest.

The Governor OFFERED to do the walk on that same day, but that was going to screw up the podium and seating arrangements in front of the State House.

SHAME on you for assuming that Romney isn't willing to cooperate - when what he was TOLD was, never mind, we don't want it anyways!

Boston Bud - I was able to restrain myself and offer polite applause when Dukakis left - try to find some class somewhere!

Honestly, I don't get that from the article. From how I read it, Mitt didn't want to participate in the daytime ceramony and Deval wasn't going to make him.

"Governor Romney has directed all of us to accommodate Governor-elect Patrick's desire for an outdoor inaugural," said Eric Fehrnstrom, Romney's spokesman. "This is Deval Patrick's day, and we are happy to accede to his wishes."

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it seems to me like Romney didn't want to take part in a big daytime ceramony, so Mitt Romney was "happy to accede" to Deval's wishes.

You showed tremendous restraint, Peter. Remember when Dukakis used to travel around the coutry, ridiculing and mocking the state, trying to make it a byword, making himself and us a national joke? What a disgraceful performance.

SHAME on him, hmm?

I'll come, Boston Bud. His exit would have ruined things, anyway, better to get it over early. If Mitt at least has the decency to not "try to show class" to our first African American governor in that *special* Kerry Healey way as he heads off to South Carolina for more bashing, I'll be happy. Rejecting our state's oldest traditions is an appropriate exit. And will prevent him from screaming "THANKS FOR VOTING FOR ME, SUCKERS!" as he departs.

Mitt is full of it. He just doesn't want the photo op for his Presidential campaign to be him being booed by thousands of people with the Dome in the background.

Of course, that wouldn't happen, because Deval would never allow it, and yes, his supporters would respect his wishes. There's no reason why Mitt's supporters can't be allowed to line the area as per usual with a departing governor for that part of the festivities if it would make him feel better.

It's the State House, they can handle security and crowd management.

Yes, I believe he called it a Presidential campaign.

Pity we all had to pay his salary while he did so.

Um, I don't remember that. I was a sentient even at that time and I remember Dukakis running on the "Massachusetts Miracle" during his 1988 presidential campaign.

BTW, I don't blame Mitt "The Snitt" Romney for slinking out the back way instead of performing his inauguration duties like a man. If I were he, I'd try to hide, too. His tenure as governor has been pretty awful, and he did more to ruin the Republican party in the state than any Democrat could have wished for. Maybe some Democrats are hoping that he will be elected president in 2008 so that he can do the same for the national Democratic party.

Raj - the timing and protocol for this event have been set by Deval Patrick. The traditional walk would interfere with the seating for the outdoor inagural.

The Governor will be leaving via the front stairs, as they all have except Cellucci (who could not during State House renovations) after his formal exchange of the tokens of office inside with Deval Patrick.

No slinking is involved, and the Governor is merely complying with Patrick's requests.

Raj, don't you remember Dukakis' rants? He used to go into rooms in other states and foam at the mouth and collapse, then rise up screaming that we're scumbags and he actually hates us more than Mitt and he can prove it. We were all confused the time, turns out he comes from a long line of soothsayers.

I think sniveling and cowering and hiding is going to work well for his campaign. He's too scared to face us, but he'll have no problem facing down Osama.

"Pity we all had to pay his salary while he did so."

And with that, you have been made a lifetime member of the Sychophants Hall of Fame and presented with their prestigious Irony Overlord/Irony Overload Award. You came close with the SHAME on you bit, but this brings home the bacon for all time. I don't impress easily, but there is none like you, none. We need to pass a law to strip Eric Fehrnstrom's state pension and give it to you instead. You are the Queen, he will never be more than the Jester. Hell, if you can submit video evidence that you typed that with a straight face, or, let's be face, just laughing gently instead of rolling on the floor holding your stomach and shrieking, then there isn't enough power or money on Earth to properly reward your gift.

I never liked the Duke because he was an absentee gov who ran around the country bad mouthing my home after we gave him the highest office.

Then again, I never liked William J. Clinton because he's he idiot son of Former President William I.J. Clinton and because he dragged us into an unnecessary and disastrous war in Iraq.

All of those things are just awful, that's why I like Mitt Romney and George W. Bush so much.

I don't like water because it's so dry and grainy, and I really hate freedom because it's like slavery.

I hate peace because it's too much like war. I really hate the sky, because red is my least favorite color. I don't like reality.

Most of all, I love Peter Porcupine because he gave me a whole bunch of what he's smoking.

See, this is where it's appropriate to remind everyone that Peter Porcupine is a REPUBLICAN STATE COMMITTEE MEMBER.

She is here to SPIN. While what she says is rarely a complete lie, it's also almost never anywhere close to the truth.

The "lone walk" is always out the front of the State House. Deval asked to speak from there because of the crowds. Mitt didn't want to deal with having to walk the gauntlet, for various reasons. Deval accommodated him.

If I were as snarky as PP, I would claim it's all about the photo op. but I'm not.

Raj, don't you remember Dukakis' rants?...

No, I don't. Can you cite a source?

I checked Wikipedia's article about "Michael Dukakis" and they did not make mention of that. They did mention his touting the "Massachusetts Miracle," however.

The Governor will be leaving via the front stairs,

OK, he'll be slinking down the front stairs (not the back ones) the day before the inauguration. Does he have a (fund-raising) scheduling conflict for Jan 4th that prevented him from appearing at the inauguration?

See, this is where it's appropriate to remind everyone that Peter Porcupine is a REPUBLICAN STATE COMMITTEE MEMBER.

That's interesting, I didn't know that. I figured that he was an apologist for the state Republican party or at least a high muckty-muck in the party, but I didn't know that he was a member of its Central Committee.

NB: the comment at 1:32PM was mine, as well.

Friends: let's don't fool ourselves.

Mitt's already gone.

Hasn't been here for some time, from what I can tell. That Fehrnstrom guy's been in charge according to most press accounts.

Raj,

Yes, also a legislative aide to Tom George and a failed candidate for the legislature.

It's why her posting on blogger ethics is so ironic.

And why BMG is so diminished by allowing her to snark there. David thinks she offers balance. Most everybody else thinks she's there to derail conversation.

Just like on here.

Ryan - if you want me gone, as courageous anonymous implies, please say so.

Otherwise - do you allow all your commenters to post details of other's private lives that may or may not be correct, ESPECIALLY as anonymous posters?

Ugh. Free Speech sucks sometimes, doesn't it?

I do ask that people try not to go on the offensive, especially revealing personal information and especially when it's not relevant.

It's important to me that everyone feel reasonably comfortable posting here.

My 2 cents. Peter's state comittee membership is extremely relevant to this conversation. She repeatedly offers Republican spin without identifying herself. It's a huge issue.

The other details aren't about her private live, BTW. They're about her life as a Republican politician.

Aside from the fact that you are also posting as an anonymous commenter, it seems to me that whether one is a paid apparatchick of either party is, indeed, relevant to assessing one's comments. It goes to the issue of bias, as any trial attorney would attest.

BTW, it is somewhat rich that a Republican wing-nut would be complaining about being somewhat "outed" on a relatively obscure local blog, when Republican wing-nuts have been publishing home addresses and telephone numbers of their ideological opponents on their rather more visited blogs for some time, which oftentimes led to harassment of the individuals involved. If you get harassed by being outed on this blog, you can chalk it up to the "what goes around, comes round" phenomenon.

Raj,

I think what "Peter" does is worse than posting anonymously. Not only is she hiding her true identity, she's stolen the pseudonym of a colonial pamphleteer. That she occasionally posts "in voice" adds insult to injury.

I suppose there are worse fates than having a Republican shill posthumously putting words in your mouth. I can't think of many.

My 2-cents. Peter Porcupine and I couldn't disagree more. We cross paths everywhere. Radio shows, blogs, on the roads of Cape Cod, shopping malls, restaurants, you name it.

We couldn't disagree more, politically, but, in almost every case, I've observed that Peter brings a respectful, always sincere, and sometimes even agreeable manner to our arguments. And, doesn't usually engage in any ad hominem attacks.

Which is a set of character traits I'd like to see in more republicans.

And, I'd sure rather PP bring her disagreements right to us as she does than a lot of other ways she could go.

My 2-cents.

lenstewart,

You're joking, right?

The nicest PP ever gets is bullying scolding like this: "SHAME on you for assuming that Romney isn't willing to cooperate"

It's Christmas, so I'll refrain from posting a "best of PP."

Let's just she has little respect for the truth and rarely hesitates to make snarky comments about others. My favorite is her calling gay people "sodomites" then pretending it was a comment by her 19th century alter-ego.

As for "lot of other ways she could go" - hey Fox News already exists.
